Letter to Church Family Members from the Bazaar Committee 2008:
It's time once again to turn our thoughts to the big fundraiser of the year for Southwood Memorial Christian Church---the Fall Church Bazaar. We hope that you have and are doing some things for this year's big event. All church families are asked to bring the following:
These items need to be at the church no later than 9 a.m. on the day of the bazaar. Each family is also asked to bring ONE quality item for the auction. Jay and Wendy R. will again be chairing this committee. They are requesting that as many members as possible to please bring the items for the auction on Friday night, November 7th and no later than 11 a.m. on Saturday. These items have to be logged in and then arranged for the auction. Items that are to be sold in the Country Store, Crafts, Bake Shop Nearly New Shop or Elf Room should be priced. This is such a big help for the individuals who are working these areas if we do them at home. We are also requesting that no one go into the kitchen except for those that are on the Kitchen Committee. When individuals who are not on the committee come in, it makes the working space crowded and slows down the work of fixing the plates. We are in hopes that everyone will cooperate with this request. The trailer for the yard sale is in place. Please make sure that when you put items in the trailer that you put them all the way to the back. This will make it so much easier for the next person who comes to drop off their goodies. Also make sure that all appliances that are donated work!!! We have a good reputation for a great yard sale and want to keep it that way. Quilt tickets and meal tickets are available from Jane V. and Susan B. Please make sure that you get yours as soon as possible. The sign-up sheets are already up. Please make sure that you sign up to donate and to work in the area of your choice. This is a complete church effort and we must make it a complete team effort in order for it to be successful. We would like to thank all of you in advance for your prayers, time and hard work that you will put forth in this activity. Remember that a lot of this money will go toward paying off our Family Life Center debt. Let's strive to make this our 40th year of having Harvest Festivals the best ever! If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to call or contact us.

What is... Country Store: The country store at the Harvest Festival is the place for you to showcase all the "fruits of your labor." All of the homemade and canned items you worked so hard to put up this summer, such as homemade jams and jellies, canned vegetables, and fruits, etc. are needed to make the country store a success. Dried flowers, potted plants and flowers, homegrown fresh produce like sweet potatoes, collards, apples, and pears are all great items to have in the Country Store. Pecans, shelled or unshelled are also another hot item needed. So please bring all those homegrown and canned items priced to sell. (Darcie B., Dixie W., and Jessica J.) Nearly New Shop: If you have items at home that are a little nicer than the yard sale items then the Nearly New Shop is the place to bring them. This is an excellent way to help you with these type of items in your closet or cabinets. A few examples are clothes, lamps, household items, books and jewelry. Please have all of our items priced that are to be donated and clothes hanging on a hanger. (Morris and Fran L.) Bake Sale: Cakes, pies, cookies, candies, breads---all of these items are needed for the CWF Bake Sale on Saturday, November 8th at our church. People just love to mix and mingle at the bake sale table. There may be buyers who want small snacks or someone who wants a full sized dessert. We want to be sure we have a variety of treats at all price levels. Brownies and chocolate chip cookies are popular items. We need plenty of chocolate and no baker sale is compete without rice krispie treats. But remember, we do make more money on cakes and pies so start practicing on your favorite recipes. Bake some beautiful, delicious desserts and package them attractively. Also, attach an index card stating the name of the product, your name and a list of the ingredients. You may want to attach the recipe. Please price your products. We do hop each family will make one or more items for the bake sale. And don't forget---come by and buy some for the holidays. (Maidred S.) Elf Shop: We are in need of items that can be sold as gifts that children can buy for friends and parents as Christmas gifts. The items will not be sold for over $5. Please donate inexpensive, but nice items that the children can purchase for gifts. (Michelle B.) Yard Sale: We would like for everyone to check your closets and garage
for any item that works that you would like to donate for our big yard sale.
We need clothes---all sizes, children and baby clothes, toys stuffed animals,
shoes, furniture, fishing supplies, yard furniture, pots and pans, silverware,
you name it, we need it! If you do not have a place to serve at our
Harvest Festival we could use your help.
